Found this one completed top, and these 5 "Quilt in a Day" (yeah right) star quilts from over 7 years ago when I was working on my graduate degree. For some insane reason I thought I didn't have enough to do... with two middle school aged boys and work and school. I've always been afraid I'm not doing enough (that is a good prompt for another story).
All fabiric purchased for queen tops. Six colors Orange, Purple, Blue, Red, Green, and Yellow. The Orange top was completly put together, just needed sandwiched and quilted. The Purple and Yellow star sections were all pieced. The Green, Blue, and Red quilts were just 2.5 inch strips of fabric waiting to be pieced. Luckily I had been coherent enough to put together mini-mockups for the fabric.
With my Dad needing fairly constant care, and time off of work, this became my "remember to take some time for yourself" goal for 2019. Both of those little boys were grown, the baby was in college. I decided to teach myself to take a slower pace. Take care of my Dad, take care of myself, ask for help, and do the very best I could.
September 2022 update: I ended up getting almost all the tops put together (the Blue star is in big diamonds, but not quite a top yet). I decided to hand quilt the Orange top, its slow going, but cathardic when I do work on it. The Yellow, Green, and Purple tops were quilted on a Gammill Elevate I rented time on at Southwest Decoratives & Kokopelli Quilting Company (in Albuquerque). I quilted about five tops at that store during COVID lockdowns. I fell in love with longarming doing these quilts, and many more.
The Yellow quilt was sent to my longest (I hate saying oldest) and dearest friend, who lives "across the pond" in Great Briton. She made the mistake of telling me she loved it, and a year later I finally made it to the post office and sent it to her. The Green quilt is in my step-son's room, and the Purple quilt is earmarked for my step-daughter. The Orange quilt will go to my son Joshua, who graduated from UF this year (go Gators) and the Blue quilt will go to my son Anthony, who helped me after my ACDF surgery last year.
The Red top is in the process of being quilted. It was the first top I put on my (new to me) Gammill Statler, and the bobbin tension was off. Lots of eyelashes, and lots of picking to take it apart and start over. Other People's Quilts (OPQ) got pushed up in the que, and it is waiting patiently for an opening. It doesn't have a designated owner... yet.
